The 2021 Junior Police Academy has been cancelled due to the on-going Covid-19 Pandemic. We have faced many challenges in preparation for this year's Junior Academy. We have decided it is in the recruits and the departments best interest to cancel, for our safety, the safety of the staff at the Morris County Public Safety Academy, the safety of the police and fire recruits attending the academy, and the safety of the junior recruits. We are hopeful that we can return to a normal program and schedule for the 2022 Junior Police Academy 

 

Please see information below: 

Enrollment for the Academy will be restricted to 40 recruits. All applicants must be entering grades 5-8. Applications will be reviewed by Junior Police Academy Coordinators to give equal opportunity to those who have not participated in the program. An email will be sent notifying the applicant of their acceptance status the first week of May.

 

There will be a mandatory orientation at Morris County Park Police Headquarters after acceptance to the program. This orientation will be held on a week night in June . Payment of $150.00 will be due prior to the orientation. Payment will be due by way of Paypal.

 

The fee of $150.00 covers the cost of uniforms, equipment, lunches, and program upgrades.

All authorization/release forms and medical waivers should be filled out completely and submitted in person at orientation. During orientation, a copy of the Junior Academy schedule will be available. We will review rules, regulations, and expectations for the Academy and answer any questions.

Our objective is a week of education, fun, and discipline in a Police Academy setting. The week long agenda will include multiple presentations from various public safety agencies. During this five-day program, activities include physical training, marching drills, detective work, practical exercises, mock motor vehicle stops, defensive tactics, and much more. Special guests have previously included the Morris County Park Police Mounted Unit and Motor Unit, Morris County Sheriff’s Office, Morris County Office of Emergency Management, and other State and Federal Law Enforcement agencies. There will also be two class trips, which will consist of touring the Morris County Correctional Facility and the Morris County Juvenile Detention Center. Transportation will be provided. 

The daily schedule is from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Recruits are to be dropped off at the Morris County Public Safety Academy no later than 7:50 a.m. on each day. Transportation to and from the Academy is the responsibility of the recruit's parent or guardian. Please be prompt when dropping off and picking up your children!

 

Each recruit is required to have his or her own lunch for the first 4 days. Please label all lunch containers with the recruit's name. Water will be provided to all recruits during physical training exercises and other physical activities. On Friday, the Academy will provide lunch to all recruits before graduation.

We are hopeful that the interaction that will take place between your children and the members of our police department will have a positive impact on all involved. As police officers, we thoroughly enjoy participating in this program each year and look forward to working with your children!
